Supporting human-centred design capability growth at the South Australian Department for Education

Over the last few years we have provided a range of services to nurture human-centred design capability within various teams in the South Australian Department for Education.

    Our work has included:

    • A number of iterations of our two-day ‘Introduction to Human-Centred Design’ training to raise awareness of HCD and give teams practical experience.
    • ‘Design thinking’ training to support adoption of customer-centred approaches in strategic areas of the organisation.
    • Project coaching and mentoring to enable teams to feel comfortable and supported at each stage of human-centred design projects.

Alison Back, Director of Business Improvement at the South Australian Department for Education commented:

“Meld’s training combined with their ongoing mentoring has provided us with the confidence to apply human-centred design to priority projects. Each time they run the run training, we find other parts of the organisation are interested to find out about HCD.”

“The training has been particularly effective because we have used real ‘problems’ throughout the training to practice HCD techniques – which to my mind makes it much more impactful than some made-up scenario that may be far from our reality, and which we then struggle to translate to the real problems we are trying to solve here in the Department for Education.”

At Meld Studios, we are always eager to incorporate real “customer” voices in our training programs. It not only provides participants with practical experience, but it gives our client additional value in the form of insights from a key audience as part of capability building activities.
